Adopt a Farm Animal

Why not treat your children to a farm visit to gain an understanding about how a traditional Cumbrian farm operates? Rayne Cottage Farm maintains a stock of animals particularly attractive to children such as sheep and lambs, chickens, pigs and piglets together with cows and a bull (look but don't touch). Contact us and we will arrange to give you a guided tour of the farm and introduce you to the animals.

We operate an 'Adopt a Farm Animal' scheme, whereby you get to give the animal a name and receive an adoption certificate. You can then monitor their progress throughout the year and maybe return to the farm to meet their offspring. If you do adopt an animal we will provide you with quarterly updates along with pictures.

Our pigs are Gloucestershire Old Spots (see the spots on the pictures), a breed noted for their large size and mild temperament. The sows make good mothers, producing large litters and plentiful supplies of milk. The piglets are a pleasure to observe at play. They are a hardy breed and at Rayne Cottage we keep them outdoors all year.
